Addiction Therapy That Builds on Your Strengths
My approach is primarily strengths based and solution focused. In your sessions, we’ll identify your strengths and use them to connect you with new skills, support, and tools. The process is not about tearing you down, but shaping you into the person you were meant to be. We’ll also seek to uncover and heal the root causes of your addiction.
Your Initial Phone Consultation
Your initial phone call is an opportunity to discuss what has been happening in your life and your expectations for therapy. During this 10 to 15 minute call, you’ll also get to know me a little bit and get a feel for if we would be a good fit to work together. At the end of the call, I will recommend a next step, which might be coming in to see me or perhaps referring you to another resource that is more appropriate to your situation.
When You Arrive
The waiting rooms at my Mission Valley and Rancho Bernardo locations have light switches on the wall. Please find my name and turn on the switch to let me know you have arrived. I will come get you when it’s time to start our appointment.
The Carlsbad waiting room does not have light switches, so I’ll just look for you at our appointment time.
What to Expect from the First Sessions
Your first session will be a mix of getting to know each other and equipping you with a few tools that can help relieve the immediate pressure of the situation you’re in. While I mostly focus on the present and future, we’ll spend our first few sessions going over your history so we can see how it might be affecting you today.
How Long You’ll Need Therapy
A lot of clients want to know how long they will need to stay in therapy. As you probably guessed, every person is different. The time you spend in therapy will primarily depend on 1) how ingrained and severe your addiction is, and 2) how hard you are willing to work to heal. Plan on it taking a couple of months to fully assess your situation and get you to a more manageable place. At that point, we’ll have a better idea of the overall timeframe.
Fees & Insurance
Please call me to see if I am the right person to help you. During your initial phone consultation, we will discuss fees. I can sometimes offer a reduced fee based on financial need and appointment availability.
I accept all PPO insurance; however, I am not in network. You’ll need to call your insurance company and ask 1) if you have a deductible for out-of-network mental health care and, if so, how much, and 2) what percentage your plan covers per session. When we meet, you’ll be responsible for the fee at the time of service and I will give you a superbill to give to your insurer for reimbursement.
Initial Forms to Complete
Please, print, and complete the relevant forms before your first session. I am part of RCA Counseling, which is why you’ll see the group practice name on the forms.
